What Is the FASTag Annual Pass?

The FASTag Annual Pass is a new optional scheme introduced by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the Rajmarg Yatra program. With this scheme, vehicle owners can pay ₹3,000 once and travel toll-free across national highways and expressways – but there’s a catch.

The pass allows up to 200 toll plaza trips per year.

⚠️ One trip = one toll crossing

So, if you cross a toll while going and coming back, it counts as two trips.

If you don’t use all 200 trips within a year, the balance is not carried forward.

Is the FASTag Annual Pass Worth It?

At first glance, it may feel like a scam. But wait — it’s actually a value-for-money deal for frequent travelers.

  • A typical toll plaza charges between ₹80–₹120 per trip

  • Under the FASTag Annual Pass, each trip costs just ₹15

So if your annual toll expenses usually cross ₹3,000, this pass can save you big time.

However, it’s not valid on all tolls.
The pass is only accepted at toll plazas operated directly by NHAI — not at private ones like Mumbai–Pune Expressway or Yamuna Expressway.

Eligibility Criteria

To use the FASTag Annual Pass, the following conditions must be met:

  • The FASTag must be linked to the vehicle's Registration Number (VRN)
  • The vehicle must be registered in the VAHAN database
  • Only non-commercial private vehicles (cars, jeeps) are eligible

FASTag must be:

  • Valid and active
  • Not blacklisted
  • Linked to a working mobile number

How to Apply for the FASTag Annual Pass

You can apply from August 15 through the official channels:
  • Rajmarg Yatra App (Android/iOS)
  • Official websites of NHAI or MoRTH

Steps to Apply:

  • Log in with your FASTag account
  • Select the “Annual Pass” option
  • Pay ₹3,000 via UPI or FASTag wallet
  • Confirmation will be received via SMS within 2 hours
Once confirmed, your annual pass will be active immediately.

FAQs

✅ What happens after 200 trips are used?

Your FASTag will continue working in normal prepaid mode. Charges will apply as per standard rates.

✅ Will unused trips carry forward to next year?

No, the pass expires after one year — unused trips are not rolled over.

✅ Can I get a refund if I don’t use it?

Unfortunately, no refunds are offered once the pass is purchased.

✅ Will this work on all toll roads?

No. It only works on NHAI-operated toll plazas. It’s not valid on private toll roads or certain city expressways.

Final Verdict: Should You Buy the FASTag Annual Pass?

If you’re someone who:
  • Regularly drives on national highways
  • Spends ₹3,000+ on tolls annually
  • Drives a private (non-commercial) vehicle
  • Wants to avoid the toll recharge hassle
…then the FASTag Annual Pass is a no-brainer.

If you’re an occasional driver or live near private toll-operated roads — you might want to skip it and keep your chai-samosa budget untouched.
