Sikkim Road Trip Guide: Permits, Hidden Rules & Essential Tips!

Exploring Sikkim: A Road Trip to Unveil the Hidden Gems

Sikkim, a serene paradise in Northeast India, is a dream destination for travelers seeking breathtaking landscapes, unique culture, and an unforgettable road trip experience. This blog takes you on a journey through the mesmerizing beauty of Sikkim, covering essential travel tips, must-visit places, road conditions, vehicle requirements, and personal experiences from my trip.

This blog is in English, if you wish to see this in Hindi, the video link is given below.

Planning the Trip: Essential Preparations

Permits & Documentation

Sikkim has several restricted areas requiring permits for Indian and foreign tourists. The Inner Line Permit (ILP) is necessary for foreign nationals, while Restricted Area Permits (RAP) and Protected Area Permits (PAP) are required for visiting places like Nathula Pass, Tsomgo Lake, and North Sikkim.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Sikkim is from March to June and September to November.

Vehicle & Road Conditions

Sikkim’s roads, especially in North Sikkim, are challenging due to rough terrains and unpredictable weather. A high-ground-clearance SUV is recommended.
